Ermeni ogrenci gruplarinin “big success” diye anlattiklari 23 Mart Concordia Universitesi seminerine Montreal’den 4 gencimiz katildi. Sessizce ve saygiyla oturup dinlediler. (Gecen sene Turkkaya Ataov’u rahatsiz etmeye gelen ogrenciler gibi, pankart tutup, slogan atmadilar, bizim cocuklarimiz kibarca dinledi.) Cocuklarimizin izlenimlerini aynen iletiyorum, lutfen dikkatle okuyunuz, eger hala daha “Kanada’da Turklerin hic bir sorunu yoktur, hic bir ozgurlugumuz tehlikede degildir” diyen tanidiklariniz varsa (bize boyle mesajlar geliyor) bu tanidiklariniza ogrencilerimiz sikintilarini lutfen iletiniz:

“23 Mart gunu Concordia Universitesi’nde duzenlenen ‘Genocide Awareness Day’ e ben dahil 4 arkadasimiz katildi ve McGill Universitesi’nden Dr.Rita Kuyumcuyan’in yaptigi konusma karsisinda tepkimizi belirttik fakat elle tutulur herhangi bir cevap alamadik cunku konusmamiz sure bittigi gerekcesi ile kisa kesildi.”

“Ben de ogun Esranin yaninda yer alan 4 arkadastan biriydim. Sozde Ermeni Soykirimini anlatan sunumundan sonra konusmaci bayana bir soru yonelttim (Konferans bitene kadar hic sesimizi cikarmadan dinledik ve sira sorulara gelince soz alarak sordum sorumu) .Sorumun “soykirim iddialari…” cumlesiyle baslamasi sanirim ki tepki vermelerine yetecekti bile zaten. Fazla detaya girmeden olaylar soyle gelisti ; Baska soru almiyoruz diyerek programi bitirdiler ve biz salondan cikana kadar tepkilere hatta bazi hakaretlere maruz kaldik. Sokakta bile bizi takip edenler, surekli adimizi soranlar oldu.

Iste gordugunuz gibi koca salonda bir kac kisi bile olsa fikirlerine karsit biri gormeye tahammul edemiyorlar. Onlar bu antidemokratik anlayislarinda birlik iseler, biz de fikirlerimizi ozgurce soyleme hakkimizin oldugu bilincideyiz ve birligiz. 1915te yasanan trajediyi Holocaust ile ozdeslestirme gibi anlamsiz ve haddini asan  bir ortamda eminim ki bizim gibi duyarli arkadaslar da tepkilerini dile getirirlerdi. Lutfen gercekleri, nasil bir oyunun icinde oldugumuz gorelim.”

“Konuşma biter bitmez kalabalık bir grup olarak etrafımızı sardılar, düşüncelerim nedeniyle Kanada’dan sınırdışı edilmem gerektiğini bile belirten biri oldu, ayrıca soruyu hepimiz adına soran Esra olduğu için  özellikle onun üzerine daha çok geldiler. İşin daha da ilginç yanı, Dr.Kuyumcuyan’ın yaptığı konuşma slayt gösterisi tamamen ”non-academic” bir konuşma oldu.Altında hiçbir bilgi yer almayan birtakım ceset fotoğrafları, ”Konstantinapol”de yaşayan (İstanbul dememekte ısrar etti) bazı Ermenilerin biyografilerini (Komitas Vartabed vs.) ve hepsinin Türk zulümlerine nasıl dayanmaya çalıştığını 23 Nisan’da şiir okuyan bir çocuk edasıyla salona aktardı ve tabiki büyük alkış aldı.Esra, Justin McCarthy’nin adını telaffuz ettiği an ise, kahkahalar ve alkışlar ile sorusu kesilmek istendi.”

Gectigimiz yil Ozlem, Ottawa universitesinde boyle etkinlikler icin bir ogrenci dernegi kurmak istedigi zaman bir kac ogrenciden “Biz zaten kurduk bir tane” diye baslayan ve sayfalar dolusu ders veren (“Biz universitede bake sale yapip muffin’larin ustune Turk bayragi koyuyoruz.”) mektuplar gelmisti. O ogrenci dernegi bu ay hangi etkinliklerde bulunuyor acaba?

Picture of the Week Genocide University Event Pictures	Top Stories Genocide Awareness Day at Concordia University Montreal – On Tuesday March 23 2010, the United Armenian Youth Committee of Quebec commemorated the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide at the John Molson School of Business building, Concordia University. The event was entitled “Genocide Awareness Day” and it was in memory of the victims of the Armenian, Rwandan, Darfuri, Cambodian Genocides and the Holocaust. The colloquium was titled “Genocide and its Aftermath: Education for Prevention” and was organized on the occasion of the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The event took place on Thursday, March 18 and materialized with the support of the Ryerson University Administration and Staff, who were determined to hold the event as a response to Ryerson University’s inadvertent participation in an event featuring Armenian Genocide denial on campus last year which was cosponsored by the Federation of Turkish Canadian Associations. Publications	MP Justin Trudeau will not share the panel with a Genocide Denier‏ Montreal – MP Justin Trudeau was  initially scheduled to share the panel with Mr. Justin McCarthy, a very well known Genocide denier at the 3rd Canadian Turkish Youth Council in January, but as promised, we decided to take the burden to fight against injustice and only achieved a second round success. Mr. Justin Trudeau, after meeting with ARF Armen Karo Student Association members Mardig Taslakian and Shant Karayan on Tuesday 15th of December, decided not to attend this Youth Council. The Armen Karo Student Association members gave Mr. Trudeau a letter explaining the purpose of this campaign and also revealing the truth about Mr. Justin McCarthy’s stance on the Armenian Genocide.
