Within the framework of the contacts in Ankara which started with a visit to Ataturk’s Mausoleum, Barrack Obama, the President of the United States, were greeted by President Abdullah Gul, with an official ceremony at Cankaya Presidential Residence. Arriving at Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), after the meeting, President Obama was met by Koksal Toptan, the chairman of TGNA. Addressing to the General Board of TGNA, President Obama stated that the greatest thing Turkish nation inherited from Ataturk was the lively and secular democracy of Turkey.

Oguz Demiralp, EU Secretary General Ambassador, and Tibor Varadi, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey also participated in the meeting. In that meeting Bagis reminded that in the framework of Turkey’s EU accession process, the EU legislation should be translated to Turkish and the Turkish legislation into English and he emphasized Turkey’s determination for EU membership. Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis, who attended the 61st meeting of Joint EU-Turkey Parliamentary Committee in Brussels which lasted for 3 days, held a press conference at Ataturk Airport and stated that he made his 4th visit to Brussels in the last two and a half months after taking office and that they were proceeding with the contacts aimed at progressing EU membership process pertinaciously.
Noting that he began his meetings in Brussels with the President of the European Parliament, Bagis said that support for Turkey’s membership to the EU was continuing and expectations towards the acceleration of the reform process were expressed during these meetings.

Brüksel’de Türkiye-AB Karma Parlamento Komisyonu’nun (KPK) 3 gün süren 61. toplantısına katılan Devlet Bakanı ve Başmüzakereci Egemen Bağış, Atatürk Havalimanı’nda yaptığı basın toplantısında göreve geldikten sonra Brüksel’e son 2.5 ayda 4. ziyareti yaptığını belirterek, AB üyelik sürecinin ilerletilmesi için temaslara kararlılıkla devam ettiklerini söyledi.
Brüksel’deki görüşmelerine Avrupa Parlamentosu Başkanı ile başladığını kaydeden Bağış, bu görüşmelerde Türkiye’nin AB üyeliğine desteğin devam ettiğini ve reform sürecinin hızlanması konusundaki beklentilerin dile getirildiğini anlattı.

|
Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis commented on the European Parliament’s (EP) Report on Turkey during his official visits in Prague and he said that the approval of the report on Turkey with the votes of 528 Member States affirms the accession process of Turkey.
Bagis recalled that in the report, there are some references to the recent reform initiatives in Turkey and he added: “Even if the report does not take whole of Turkey’s sensitivities into consideration, it is a document that can be useful in Turkey’s reform and membership process.”

Resmi temaslar için gittiği Prag’da, Avrupa Parlamentosu (AP) tarafından kabul edilen Türkiye raporunu değerlendiren Devlet Bakanı ve Başmüzakereci Egemen Bağış, “Raporun 528 üyenin oyu ile kabul edilmesi ülkemizin katılım sürecini teyit etmektedir” dedi.
Raporda, Türkiye’de son dönemde atılan reform adımlarına da atıflarda bulunulduğunu anımsatan Bağış, “Rapor, Türkiye’nin hassasiyetlerinin tümünü dikkate almasa da, Türkiye’nin reform ve üyelik sürecinde yararlanılabilecek bir belge durumunda” dedi.
