KIBRIS: “Tek egemenlik tek vatandaşlık”

Lefkoşa ara bölgede 4.5 saat görüşen KKTC Cumhurbaşkanı Mehmet Ali Talat ve Rum yönetimi lideri Dimitiris Hritofyas’ın, “tek egemenlik ve tek vatandaşlık konusunda prensipte anlaştığı” açıklandı.

Talat ile Hristofyas’ın, BM Genel Sekreteri’nin Kıbrıs Özel Temsilcisi ve BM Barış Gücü (UNFICYP) Misyon Şefi Taye-Brook Zerihoun’un Lefkoşa ara bölgede görüştü.

Zerihoun, 4,5 saat süren görüşmeden sonra yaptığı açıklamada, görüşmenin “pozitif ve işbirliği havasında geçtiğini” belirterek, liderlerin, “tek egemenlik ve tek vatandaşlık konusunda prensipte anlaştığını” bildirdi. Temsilci, liderlerin, bu konuları uygulama detaylarını, kapsamlı müzakerelerde ele alma konusunda da uzlaştığını açıkladı.

Liderlerin 25 Temmuz’da yeniden bir araya geleceğini kaydeden BM yetkilisi, bugünkü görüşmede ilk kez teknik komite ve çalışma gruplarının faaliyetlerinin gözden geçirildiğini, 25 Temmuz’daki görüşmede ise bu konuda son kez değerlendirme yapılacağını belirtti.

Gazetecilerin sorularını yanıtlamayan Talat ve Hristofyas el sıkışarak basına görüntü verdi. Zerihoun’un ikametgahından önce Talat, sonra da Hristofyas ayrıldı.

TALAT-CHRISTOFIAS MEETING 

President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias who came together for the third time yesterday (1 July) since the presidential elections in South Cyprus with the aim of starting full-fledged negotiations discussed the issues of single sovereignty and citizenship which they agreed in principle. 

The meeting, which was held within the framework of 21st of March agreement, lasted for four and a half hours.

Senior aides of the two leaders, Ozdil Nami and George Iacovou were also present in the meeting which took place at the residence of the UN Special Representative for Cyprus Taye Brook Zerihoun in the bufferzone.

A statement read out by Zerihoun at the end the meeting said that the two leaders met in a positive and cooperative atmosphere and undertook the first review of the work of the working groups and technical committees established to prepare the ground for full-fledged negotiations.

Continuing, Zerihoun stated that the two leaders have discussed the issues of single sovereignty and citizenship which they agreed in principle and decided to take these issues during full-fledged negotiations.

He noted that the leaders also agreed to meet again on the 25th of July when they will undertake the final review of the working groups and technical committees.
