ISLAMABAD: The international air exercise Indus Viper-II between the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and Turkish Air Force (TuAF) concluded at an operational air base of the PAF on Sunday.

TuAF Chief of Operations Maj Gen Ares Mehmat was the chief guest at the culmination ceremony. PAF Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Operations) Air Marshal Waseemud Din and Turkish Ambassador M Babur Hizlan were also present at the occasion. The Turkish Air Force contingent comprising five F16s C&D (Fighting Falcons), combat pilots and ground technical crew participated in the air exercise, conducted from March 4 to16.

The Pakistan Air Force emphasises on the combat training of its air and ground crew and regularly undertakes air exercises with allied air forces. These exercises not only play a vital role in honing the combat skills of PAF aircrew but also enable them to learn the latest air power employment strategies in complex theatres of warfare.

The prime objective of the exercise was to excel in the air combat capability with focus on air power employment in any future conflict. The Pakistan Air Force conducts such exercises on regular intervals both inland and abroad. Air Exercise Indus Viper II provided an opportunity to combat crew of both the air forces to acquaint themselves with applied tactics of air power in near real scenario.

Pakistan Air Force has been participating in a number of international air exercises with some of the best air forces of the world, including the United States Air Force (USAF), Italian Air Force, Turkish Air Force and air forces of other allied countries. Exercise Anatolian Eagle is conducted on alternate year. Similarly, exercises Red Flag and Green Flag are conducted between the PAF and USAF on alternate years. Last year the PAF conducted the operational exercise Shaheen-I with PLA Air Force.

The brotherly countries Pakistan and Turkey have a long history of military cooperation. To enhance mutual understanding between the two air forces, the PAF and TuAF have been successfully conducting joint exercises for many decades. Exercise Indus Viper-II was also planned in the same backdrop and is the second air exercise in this category. agencies

The Israeli regime has delivered airborne electronic systems to Turkey, which will integrate the systems into its Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) military aircraft.

The reconnaissance systems have now arrived at a Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) facility in Ankara, and their integration into military aircraft purchased from the United States will be completed in the next few weeks, the Turkish newspaper Today’s Zaman reported on Sunday.

An unnamed senior Turkish defense official said that the US multinational aerospace and defense corporation, Boeing, had to intervene to resolve the standoff between Turkey and the Israeli regime over the systems.

“Boeing told Israel that their refusal to complete the delivery was hurting their business, and Israel agreed to deliver the equipment,” the Turkish official said.

In 2002, Turkey’s Under-secretariat for Defense Industries, the procurement agency, ordered four Boeing 737-700 AWACS aircraft, a ground radar and control systems, plus ground control segments for mission crew training, mission support and maintenance support.

The Israeli company Elta Systems Ltd. was commissioned to manufacture electronic measuring systems (EMS) for the four planes. The deal reportedly costs more than $100 million.

However, the Israeli ministry for military affairs suspended the project several months ago, after Elta had already completed two of the devices.

Elta’s decision to renew the project may mean that Israel is putting an end to its two-year defense exports ban on Turkey.

Airborne Warning and Control System is a radar system designed to detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and control and command the battle space in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes.

Used at a high altitude, the radars on the aircraft allow the operators to distinguish between friendly and hostile aircraft hundreds of miles away.

The system is used offensively to direct fighters to their target locations and defensively in order to counter attacks by enemy forces, both in the air and on the ground.

    ANKARA – Hürriyet Daily News

The 100th anniversary of the Turkish Air Force will be marked with a series of activities throughout the year, including international conferences, exhibitions, training, exercises and artistic and cultural projects.

“Our aim in our 100th year is not simply to celebrate our age, but to generate trust and interest in the Turkish Air Force from citizens, especially the country’s youth,” the Turkish Air Force Command stated in a press release.

The year will be highlighted by various symposiums, conferences and meetings about Turkish, European and international air forces and space technology.

The European Air Chiefs Conference, which is organized in a different European country every year, will be held in Istanbul this year in June. Istanbul will also have the honor of hosting the Global Air Chiefs Conference, with approximately 90 different countries invited.

The celebrations kicked off Jan. 20-21 with concerts by the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. The yearlong celebrations will include photography and art exhibitions, various contests, a theater play, a movie, a 10-episode TV show, a documentary, books and a cartoon.

May 14 will mark the unveiling of the Turkish Air Force 100th Year Monument in Istanbul.

Established in 1911, the Turkish Air Force is one of the oldest aviation organizations in the world, and operates in the fields of security, natural disasters, forest fires, search and rescue and medical transportation.

Utilizing the latest weaponry and systems, the Turkish Air Force has the capability to reach anywhere in the world within 24 hours.

One of the leading air forces in the world, the Turkish Air Force has carried out peace operations from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Afghanistan, Cyprus to Kosovo, while lending a helping hand to allies such as Pakistan, Chile, Haiti, Congo and Mongolia.

The Turkish Air Force is recognized worldwide for its facility in Konya, which includes the “Anatolian Eagles Training Center,” where multi-aircraft war scenarios can be recreated, and the “Electronic Warfare Test and Training Range,” which was engineered by Turkey and is only available in select countries.

Many innovations are being brought to the century-old organization, with Turkey producing its own fighter aircraft and setting its sights beyond the sky and into space.

“The Turkish Air Force targets to be not only the world’s leading ‘air power,’ but rather the ‘air and space power,’” the press release from the Turkish Air Command stated, adding that a reconnaissance and surveillance project, early detection and communication satellites are all important steps toward this goal.
