AT LEAST 70,000 AND COUNTING… BIG MEDIA BLACKOUT “Occupy Wall Street”

10 questions about “Occupy Wall Street” that should be answered urgently:

    1. Why are peaceful protesters being treated as if they are criminals?

    2. Why are thousands of police, and SWAT teams and police dogs, being mobilized to protect Wall Street bankers?

    3. Why are almost all the mainstream media outlets in America ignoring a major civil protest in the heart of New York?

    4. Why do the police not pursue criminal bankers and business leaders with the same venom and force that they use when pursuing protesters who have so far done nothing wrong?

    5. Why is nothing being done to address the genuine economic problems in America? Why, instead, is the old system – the one that failed disastrously in 2008 – being rebuilt brick by brick, fault by fault?

    6. How much longer will the doctrine of ‘plausible denial’ be allowed to act as an excuse for widespread corruption and criminality?

    7. Why (if true) was the Occupy Wall Street protest treated as a police code 1-34, which is used for riots? Are all protests now riots?

    8. Why has not one banker or corporate leader emerged to talk to the protesters or debate with them?

    9. Is it a coincidence that many people in the heart of the protest have had trouble getting mobile / cellphone / internet signals?

    10. Does the government genuinely believe the pent-up anger and frustration will simply go away?

UK: David Cameron calls in US ‘supercop’ William J Bratton to stop England riots

William J BrattonUS ‘Supercop’ William J Bratton, who fought gang violence and street crime in New York and Los Angeles, is to advise David Cameron on how best to deal with recent riots in cities including London, Manchester and Birmingham.

Mr Bratton will meet the prime minister next month to share his knowledge and provide tips on how the UK can avoid further disorder.

He believes making police forces more ethnically diverse could be one way of reducing racial tension and said the lessons learned in previous rioting in the US can be applied to the UK.

Now working as a security consultant and chairman of Manhattan-based security firm Kroll, the 63-year-old claimed law enforcers in the UK need to work more with community leaders and civil rights groups to calm racial tensions.

‘Part of the issue going forward is how to make policing more attractive to a changing population,’ he said, pointing to the success of similar initiatives in New York and LA.

Earlier this month, Mr Bratton took part in a panel at the second annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition, New Orleans, where fan violence was high on the agenda.

  • Turkish Karsan looks strong in New York Taxi competition

Turkish Karsan looks strong in New York Taxi competition

The new visitor to New York is often struck by three big impressions: the people are friendlier than we’ve been led to believe, the streets really do look like the films, and the choice of car to serve as the standard taxi appears to have been made by a carefree madman with shares in Ford.
    Karsan

The Stretch Crown Victoria is an enormous barge of a thing with very little room in the back for passengers and only moderate boot space, inaccessible to most passengers trying to board in heavy Manhattan traffic. Its 4.6 litre V8 sucks in a gallon of fuel for every 18 miles of travel – comparable to a Jaguar XKR sport coupe – and its small, low back doors make it difficult to get in if you use a stick, never mind a wheelchair.

Ford is finally drawing production of the Crown Vic to a close this year, so New York has been running a competition to find a successor. Two other models – The Ford Escape hybrid 4×4 and the Toyota Sienna MPV – are already in use. The rather odd choice of a 4×4 for a city taxi is justified by its hybrid drive and slightly better fuel economy, and the Sienna allows easier access.

Neither of these would be an iconic design statement though, and councils of big cities do love an iconic design statement, so the competition entries have been whittled down to three contenders: adapted versions of the Ford Transit Connect and Nissan Public, and the all-new Karsan V1.

The Ford can still only manage 19mpg, the Nissan still barely has room for three people in the back and the Karsan only existed in design form.

That is, until now. A prototype went on display at the New York garage of the Classic Car Club, and looks as though it’s a clear winner on the ingenuity of design, at least.

The floor is flat and an automatic ramp is fitted as standard to allow easy access, the sign on top is digital to make it easier to see whether the cab is for hire and which way the passengers are about to get out of, there are four seats including one that faces the rear and folds up when it’s not needed, there’s room for luggage in the cab so there’s no need to open the boot just because you have a couple of suitcases and the transparent roof allows passengers to gaze at the skyscrapers in wonder.

As Karsan is a Turkish company and Turkey is yet to establish itself as one of the great auto-making countries there might be some scepticism about their claims to ruggedness and reliability. Ford have the advantage of being the home team and Nissan have three factories in the US, making them a slightly patriotic choice, if not exactly true blue.

The survey is now closed, so the choice is up to the city officials. If they can’t make up their minds, I hear that London Taxis International are always looking for new markets for their TX4.

Ivanka Trump Goes Turkish and More

Have you been to the Spa at Trump SoHo yet? Well, it’s a must, and get there as soon as possible.

    TRUMP HAMMAM

Inspired by her visits to high-end Turkish baths while traveling through Istanbul, Ivanka Trump decided to create her own mosaic-tiled sanctuary at the new Trump SoHo in Manhattan. Spanning two floors of the hotel, the sprawling 11,000-square-foot spa is calming, minimal, and chic. The two Hammam rooms in particular are beautifully designed and well executed. They’re meant for only two people—the guest and the Hammam Attache—but there’s ample space.

A therapist performing a Turkish Hammam Ritual on a guest, encasing her body with bubbles. My Turkish Hammam Ritual began with warm-to-hot water poured from head to toe as I lay on a heated marble bed covered with a couple layers of toweling. Then, using water from a large, shallow silver bowl, my specialist started to alternate between heated water and cool water, which I found to be incredibly exhilarating. (This combination isn’t for the lighted-hearted, or perhaps anyone with a heart condition. It is recommended that you check with your doctor before experiencing the treatment.) I was then exfoliated with a traditional Turkish Kessa mitt (given to me at the end of my treatment as a gift) and detoxified with an oil-based castile soap placed in a small, soft pillowcase-like cloth. The specialist caught air in it and held it like a balloon; then as he caressed it down my body, creating a soapy froth that engulfed me. I was simply in heaven. The Moroccan Hammam starts off in a similar fashion to the Turkish Hammam, but authentic Moroccan black soap made from olive oil is used instead. Then the body is masked with warm, detoxifying Ghassoul clay.

Lucky me, my heavenly Hammam experience was followed by one of the four Trump Signature Gemstone Spa Treatments: Balancing Diamonds, Purifying Emeralds, Revitalizing Rubies, and Calming Sapphires. I opted for the Balancing Diamonds Massage, which was to balance out my crown chakra to provide clarity and enlightenment. I must compliment my massage therapist, Slavic (who was also my Hammam Attache), who knew exactly which muscles needed more attention without my having to say a word.

My assessment? Perfect. It was an all-around feel-good, wonderful experience to the max, from head to toe. I would recommend this combination of the Hammam and Gemstone treatments wholeheartedly. No doubt, I will be going back there again, and again, and again, and again…

TURKEY WINS AWARD FOR ‘NEW YORK, TIMES SQUARE OUTDOOR ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN’ IN MOST PRESTIGIOUS TRAVEL MARKETING COMPETITION

TurkeyNEW YORK,- The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) will grant award to Turkey in its 53rd annual Adrian Awards Competition for the ‘Times Square Outdoor Campaign’ which is realized as part of the ‘Unlimited Turkey’ advertising campaign of Turkish Culture and Tourist Office in New York.

The Adrian Awards is the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition globally, considered by many as the ‘Oscars of the travel marketing community’, said Nihan Bekar, Director of Turkish Culture and Tourist Office in New York.

‘Times Square Domination,’ brought Turkey to the heart of Times Square with dueling digital displays on the 22-story Reuters sign and the 7-story Nasdaq tower wrap-around. With 19,200 sq. ft. of interactive power, vibrant true-life colors, and fast transitions, ‘Times Square Domination’ towered over crowds below with a mix of video footage and image sequences promoting the diversity of Turkey’s offerings, from upscale experiences in Istanbul to ruins and natural wonders. The campaign saw foot traffic averaging 2 million people per day, running 180 daily for a full month. Interviews conducted at the site elicited responses such as, ‘I didn’t know Turkey offered so many varied adventures,’ and, ‘I really want to visit NOW.’
