David Cameron has urged Londoners not to elect Labour’s Sadiq Khan as their next mayor, stated that they will become “lab rats” for party leader Jeremy Corbyn’s economic experiments.

Addressing a rally of Conservative activists, Mr Cameron sought to frame the election as an early verdict on Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour party as well as a choice between Mr Goldsmith and Mr Khan.

He said “Sadiq Khan nominated Jeremy Corbyn to be leader of the Labour party and he doesn’t regret it. Never mind the fact he (Mr Corbyn) wants to give the Falklands back to Argentina or he thinks that nuclear submarines should patrol the Atlantic without any missiles.

“Ahead of the rally, the Conservatives launched a poster campaign depicting Mr Goldsmith as “your man in City Hall”.

The Conservative Party mayor candidate said he would set up a New York-style “office of data analytics”, which would look at statistics from across the City Hall empire to address crime, housing, transport and quality-of -life issues.

He would also launch an annual  £1 million Mayor’s Tech Challenge to encourage businesses to come up with innovative ideas. Suggestions included a rental app which cuts out estate agents, saving landlords and tenants hundreds of pounds in fees, as well as releasing data to help construction companies cut freight traffic.

One of the Mr Goldsmith’s wide-ranging plans for London businesses will include setting up a new Business Advisory Group, with members nominated by the business community.

Mr Zac Goldsmith said he would also use TFL’s 560km network of railway routes, tunnels and bridges to rapidly deliver superfast broadband. He would insist the Government responds on Heathrow expansion in the summer as promised, would increase funding for promoting London and boost the capital’s image himself, including abroad.

Start-ups would be helped by cutting red tape, with affordable office space in all new developments, and putting adult skills funding into key areas like engineering, science and financial services, with firms able to import  talent from overseas if needed. Mr Goldsmith says he will lobby to ensure 30 hours of promised free childcare reflects the cost of nurseries in London.

  • THE 1915 DOCUMENTARY A FILM BASED ON ARMENIAN SOURCES

THE 1915 DOCUMENTARY A FILM BASED ON ARMENIAN SOURCES

    Poster 1915 DocTHE 1915 DOCUMENTARY
A FILM BASED ON ARMENIAN SOURCES

This ground-breaking film will have its first screening on 20th April 2015 in London. Unlike the accusatorial films and publications by Armenian activists, it is not a propaganda film. It is based solely on documentary evidence, including much uncovered in the Russian archives. It includes film clips from Eastern Anatolia in 1982 that have never been shown publicly. These clips recently came to the possession of the director who has included them in this latest work. This has enabled him to bring to life the memories of individuals who lived through the tragic events of 1915.
The documentary clearly demonstrates that the claims of genocide from Armenian activists lack credibility, especially in the light of so much conflicting evidence. Important new Armenian sources, obtained from Russian archives, reveal what actually happened during this tragic period, and these are significant and important aspects of this work. Its aim is to put an end to any confusion in this subject.
“The 1915 Documentary” opens a startlingly new window into events at the time drawing on Armenian sources available in the Russian Archives, as the Armenian archives are still not open to public. This new knowledge is based primarily on the work of Mehmet Perinçek who has researched Russian State archives since 1988.
The documentary also contains interviews with many prominent historians who have done extensive research into Ottoman – Armenian history. Professor Dr Justin McCarthy, Professor Dr Heath Lowry and Professor Norman Stone are some of these academics. There are also several interviews with members of the Turkish-Armenian clergy.
This film is essential viewing for anyone interested in the truth about the events of 1915.

Dubai, 16 hours, 53 minutes ago

London was the most popular overseas destination among Middle East travellers for Eid al Adha this year, marginally beating out last year’s favourite, Istanbul, from the top spot, a report said.

Leading hotel price comparison site HotelsCombined analysed its online hotel booking demand out of Mena in the lead up to Eid and found that within the GCC, Dubai retained the top destination position yet again, followed by Abu Dhabi.

With an increase of 100 per cent in demand, Abu Dhabi is rapidly gaining popularity among Mena travellers as a hub of culture, sport and leisure, with the average stay value posting at a healthy $ 1,320. However, travellers are willing to spend more on European destinations like London, which posts a significantly higher average stay value of $ 3,300.

Meanwhile, other top Eid destinations like Kuala Lumpur, Paris and Istanbul saw their average hotel values decline as a result of lower hotel prices and currency fluctuations.

Dubai continues to have the same year-on-year popularity with a consistent average stay value of $ 2,050.

Wael El Behi, general manager of Ramada Downtown Dubai, said: “Dubai is by far the best destination in the region and one of the best in the world. It is the favourite destination for the GCC and ME markets due to its proximity to the region’s key capitals, regular and frequent flights from and to the world, innovative infrastructure, abundant array of events and safety and security measures.”

Amer Al Halabi, regional manager of Mena for HotelsCombined, said: “Dubai’s emphasis on family-focused events and its 48-hour shopping sales throughout Eid attract a lot of interest among Mena travellers, especially those from Saudi Arabia. It’s also interesting to note that even though London is a more expensive destination to travel to, Mena travellers continue to flock there in ever larger numbers.”

HotelsCombined notes that hotel prices vary from one booking site to another and recommends that travellers who book online use a meta-search engine to compare prices and find their ideal hotel stay for the best price. – TradeArabia News Service

    • Anti-Israeli protesters storm stage at London event
    • Guests included David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson

Anti-Israeli protesters took advantage of a security lapse to infiltrate a dinner for Uefa’s top officials in London on Friday night.

According to Guardian Guests at the event – including David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson – were stunned as three people, two men and a woman, staged the protest against Uefa arranging its European Under-21 tournament in Israel next month.

One of the protesters jumped on the stage and started shouting slogans, while another stood behind the Uefa president, Michel Platini, with a small flag, before all three were removed by security staff at the Old Billingsgate venue.

The dinner followed Uefa’s Congress in London on Friday and was organised with the support of the Football Association.

One guest, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Press Association Sport: “It was between courses and suddenly this man and woman got on the stage and started shouting things against Israel. Another had a flag and was standing behind Platini.

“Everyone was gobsmacked. It seemed to go on for a few minutes before they were removed.

“It was a bit of a security lapse to say the least. They were smartly dressed in suits but no one could understand how they had got in because we all had to show our invitations.”

Protesters from a group called Red Card Israeli Racism had also staged a demonstration outside the Uefa Congress at London’s Grosvenor House hotel earlier in the day.

It is the latest in a series of protests against Uefa – in January a group of pro-Palestinian activists occupied Uefa’s headquarters near Geneva.

Eight countries, including England, are taking part in the Under-21 tournament in Israel next month.
