Renunciation of ‘war on terror’ has begun

If the first decade after 9/11 was devoted to making the Islamic world accountable for terrorism, the second will be devoted to making the West pay for perpetuating many of the causes of terrorism

Bravo for Turkey. Finally a country has shown the backbone to stand up to the Israelis. In the annals of global geopolitics, this stunning action is the equivalent of the 1973 Arab oil embargo against the West.

DECADE OF DEVASTATION: Critics say that the 9/11 attacks led to 10 unnecessary military conflicts and a clampdown on civil liberties in the US.

Coming just a few days before the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Turkey’s explusion of the Israeli ambassador is yet another twist in the tale for the Western powers as they struggle to reshape the Middle East in their image, occupy its energy-rich countries, eliminate unfriendly dictators, prop up friendly dictators and find ways of wiping Palestine off the map, even as they publicly deny trying to do any of the above.

Another game-changing moment will come if the Palestinians, too, show some backbone and remain steadfast in their pursuit of statehood via the UN General Assembly when it convenes for its annual session on Sept 20.

In announcing the decision, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted as saying in Hurriyet Daily News: ”Our aim is not to harm the historical Turkish-Jewish friendship, but on the contrary, to urge the Israeli government to correct their mistake that does not befit this exceptional friendship. No state is above the law, and the time has come for Israel to pay a price for its illegal actions. This price, first of all, is being deprived of Turkey’s friendship.”

That comment, which was ”redacted” by most of the Western media, is set to become the defining dictum of the second decade of the post-9/11 era in which Israel, the US and the West will be held accountable for seeking above-the-law status in the so-called ”war on terror”.

Indeed, Western governments will be held accountable for violating their own claims to be great observers of the rule of law. In yet another 10th anniversary anti-climax, a growing chorus of voices is highlighting the US drift towards becoming a surveillance state devoid of any checks and balances, just like the former Soviet Union.

A Sept 1 comment by Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe’s Commission for Human Rights was explicitly headlined: ”Ten years of global ‘war on terror’ undermined human rights _ also in Europe”.

He said: ”European government authorities have been deeply complicit in the counter-terrorism strategies pursued by the US Central Intelligence Agency. They permitted, protected and participated in CIA operations which violated fundamental tenets of our systems of justice and human rights protection.

”The framework for this cooperation was the CIA policy of rendition, detention and interrogation, called the RDI Programme. Based on the official information we now possess, notwithstanding the concerted efforts of the US authorities and their allies to keep every last detail secret, there is no doubt that all three elements of this programme have entailed systematic violations of human rights.”

Also last week, the US Bipartisan Policy Centre released the ”Tenth Anniversary Report Card: The Status of the 9/11 Commission Recommendations”, which went into great detail about the massive security apparatus launched to keep American safe but gave a failing mark to the protection of civil liberties. In a section titled ”Civil Liberties and Executive Power”, the report card noted that the 9/11 Commission had recommended formation of a Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board under the executive branch ”to oversee adherence to the [privacy] guidelines we recommend and the commitment the government makes to defend our civil liberties”.

The report card noted, ”An array of security-related policies and programmes present significant privacy and civil liberty concerns. In particular, as the FBI and the rest of the intelligence community have dramatically expanded their surveillance of potential terrorists, they have used tools such as National Security Letters that may implicate the privacy of Americans.”

However, it said, ”legislation to establish this board … has, in fact, been dormant for more than three years. The Obama administration recently nominated two members for the board, but they have not yet been confirmed by the Senate.”

While noting that some government agencies individually have established chief privacy officers to monitor the impact of policies, regulations, and directives issued by their respective departments on civil liberties, the report card added: ”If we were issuing grades, the implementation of this recommendation would receive a failing mark. A robust and visible board can help reassure Americans that these programmes are designed and executed with the preservation of our core values in mind. Board review can also give national security officials an extra degree of assurance that their efforts will not be perceived later as violating civil liberties.”

These contradictions and double-standards, repeatedly warned about in this column over the years, prevail not just at an individual level but at a global level. The number of innocent people killed in wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and many other battlegrounds of the so-called ”war on terror” far, far outnumber those killed in the 9/11 attacks, but no one has been held accountable.

Both overtly and covertly, Israel is a major player in the war on terror. So far, it has been able to operate with unquestioning impunity, at home and beyond. But the Turkish move, and the near-explusion of the Israeli ambassador by the Egyptian government last month, shows the world’s patience has run out.

If the first decade after 9/11 was devoted to making Arabs and the Islamic world accountable for terrorism, the second decade will be devoted to making Israel, the United States and the Western powers pay the price for perpetuating the root cause of much of this terrorism _ the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

In order to thwart this debate and disclosure, the so-called democracies will resort increasingly to anti-democratic methods, such as surveillance of their critics, torture, arrests, intimidation, threats, assassinations.

This contradiction in terms will in effect make them police states _ and hand Osama bin Laden a glorious posthumous victory. The only way to stop this is for the people of the West to undergo a similar awakening to that now spreading through the Middle East.

In the upcoming UN annual ministerial session, they will again have a chance to ”correct their mistake”, as the Turkish foreign minister says. Will they seize it? Sadly, I don’t think so.

    CENSORED: The Black Banners

The Black BannersOne former FBI agent is finding out firsthand that freedom of speech isn’t something guaranteed to every American. Colleagues at the CIA are keeping him from printing some of his own personal accounts in an upcoming book about the 9/11 attacks.

In his upcoming book “The Black Banners: The Inside Story of 9/11 and the War Against Al Qaeda,” Ali H. Soufan wants to write that the Central Intelligence Agency could have had a chance at keeping the September 11 terror attacks from happening. Soufan says that the CIA knew about two of the hijackers involved in the al-Qaeda plot, and while that information might have been of great interest to the FBI, the Central Intelligence Agency withheld the crucial information.

Specifically, Soufan says that the CIA had detailed information on 9/11 hijacker Abu Zubaydah as early as January 2000 but neglected to act on it.

Also in his memoirs, Soufan writes detailed accounts of CIA interrogations tactics that he saw brutally executed firsthand by agents, which he were unnecessary and counterproductive. The agency is asking the author to remove the pronouns “I” and “me” from that chapter as if to discredit his personal accounts from specific incidents.

Unfortunately, Soufan’s stories might never make it to print if the CIA has their say. The former agent says that he is being told to take out key parts from his tales, and he believes it isn’t because of a national security scare, but because the CIA doesn’t want to be reflected poorly to the public.

As if that was even possible!

In a report released yesterday by The New York Times, Soufan’s attorneys that they received word that the CIA could end up “embarrassed” by the author’s allegations. Soufan responded to the Times that it is “ridiculous” that they are redacting so much material from his book, but that he will rally to have the information published in further editions.

Much of the material found in Soufan’s book has been available online and in print in the decade since 9/11, but the CIA says that doesn’t mean he can go ahead and talk about it. “Just because something is in the public domain doesn’t mean it’s been officially released or declassified by the U.S. government,” CIA spokeswoman Jennifer Youngblood said in a statement.

Upon originally sending a proof of the 600-page manuscript to the Bureau, Soufan was told to prove that dozens of names listed in the document were not classified. He opted simply to substitute aliases for many of the names, but meanwhile the CIA sent the FBI a copy. Their response? Nearly 200 pages of suggested cuts.

With a deadline approaching, Soufan’s “The Black Banners” will hit the printing press this week, with the first edition using all of the cuts demanded by the FBI.

David Cameron’s Statement on Death of Osama Bin Laden

    Number10door

Prime Minister David Cameron has issued a statement on the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Osama Bin Laden, who was responsible for some of the worst terrorist atrocities including the 9/11 attack, was killed in a US operation in Pakistan.

Mr Cameron congratulated President Obama on the operation and said now was a time to remember all those murdered by Osama Bin Laden.

    The PM said:

“The news that Osama Bin Laden is dead will bring great relief to people across the world. Osama Bin Laden was responsible for the worst terrorist atrocities the world has seen –  for 9/11 and for so many attacks, which have cost thousands of lives, many of them British.

“It is a great success that he has been found and will no longer be able to pursue his campaign of global terror.  This is a time to remember all those murdered by Osama Bin Laden, and all those who lost loved ones. It is also a time too to thank all those who work round the clock to keep us safe from terrorism. Their work will continue.

“I congratulate President Obama and those responsible for carrying out this operation.”

Mr Cameron also spoke on television at his residence at Chequers.

    The Prime Minister said:

“This news will be welcomed right across our country.

“Of course, it does not mark the end of the threat we face from extremist terrorism. Indeed, we will have to be particularly vigilant in the weeks ahead.

“But it is, I believe, a massive step forward.

“Osama bin Laden was responsible for the death of thousands of innocent men, women and children right across the world – people of every race and religion.

“He was also responsible for ordering the death of many, many British citizens, both here and in other parts of the world.

“I would like to congratulate the US forces who carried out this brave action. I would like to thank President Obama for ordering this action.

“And I think it is a moment when too we should thank all of those who work day and night, often with no recognition, to keep us safe from the threat of terror.

“But above all today, we should think of the victims of the poisonous extremism that this man has been responsible for.

“Of course, nothing will bring back those loved ones that families have lost to terror.

“But at least they know the man who was responsible for these appalling acts is no more.”

The Turkish Flag Controversy | Christian Action Network

    sacrificed survivors

The Christian Action Network has received thousands of emails about the cover of our new documentary, Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mosque. This controversy could result in protests at the premiere of the film in New York City on October 28. We regret any hurt feelings caused by the use of only the Turkish flag on the cover of the film. We did not mean to single out Turkey and therefore, the cover will be altered to include the flags of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan and Syria.

The decision to include these flags is being made in order to reinforce one of the themes of the film: Radical Islam seeks to bring the world under Sharia law and the U.S. is no exception. The flags that will be depicted are of countries that have instituted Sharia law in their country and/or sponsor the spread of radical Islam.

Turkey was chosen because the country serves as a reminder of what can happen if “stealth jihad” is successful. Turkey was once a staunchly pro-American ally with a secular identity. Unfortunately, it is today governed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party, which has brought Turkey in the opposite direction.

Erdogan and his party’s initial 2002 election victory encouraged the Muslim Brotherhood, with its political chief saying the victory came as a result of the “exposing of the failure of the secular trend.” Turkey has become a leading provocateur of Israel and bastion of anti-Americanism. Erdogan has moved the country much closer to Iran, Syria and Sudan, going so far as to oppose U.N. sanctions on Iran for their nuclear program. He has even said, “I do not think that Hamas is a terrorist organization.”

The Turkish flag was originally chosen because of the presence of the Islamic star and crescent on the flag. As the CIA World Factbook explains, “the crescent moon and star serve as insignia for the Turks, as well as being traditional symbols of Islam.” Those symbols were chosen to signify Turkey’s status as a country with a Muslim identity—and will be used in the same fashion on the American flag should the country be overtaken by radical Islamic forces.

We do not mention this to try to portray a negative image of the Turkish people. Although their votes put Erdogan’s party (and therefore, him) in power, we know not all Turks can be characterized as Islamists. Polls show the vast majority of Turks oppose Osama Bin Laden, Hamas and Hezbollah, and we hope the election next July will reflect this opposition to radical Islam and the aligning of Turkey with enemies of the West. But the fact remains—the “stealth jihad” of political Islam has been successful in Turkey. And this is something the West must learn from.

The flags of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran and Sudan were chosen because their governments are using Sharia law as a basis for government and because of their support for the spread of radical Islam. The Syrian flag was chosen because, although the government is secular, it undoubtedly contributes to the spread of radical Islam by sponsoring terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

The cover of Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mosque will not single out Turkey, but the editing omission should not take away from the film’s premise and the stories of the survivors of 9/11 and the families of the victims as the Ground Zero Islamic center and mosque controversy continues.

ALAN HART: BREAKS SILENCE ABOUT 9/11 ON THE KEVIN BARRETT SHOW

    27. May, 2010

Senior BBC Mideast Correspondent: “Here’s what may have REALLY happened on 9/11″!

    Alan Hart Israeli Connection

Breaking his self-imposed rule against talking about 9/11, former Senior BBC Mideast Correspondent and author Alan Hart described what he thinks may have really happened on that fateful day on yesterday’s Kevin Barrett show.

Hart, who got to know Yasser Arafat and Golda Meir while serving as a Security Council-briefed Mideast peace negotiator, said that he has been assured by a top-level demolitions/engineering expert who wishes to remain anonymous that the three World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed by controlled demolitions, not plane crashes and fires. (For the names of more than 1000 experts willing to go on the record with the same opinion, see http://www.ae911truth.org).

During the hour-long interview, Hart discussed Israel’s record of engaging in outrageous attacks on friend and foe alike, and spreading even more outrageous lies to cover them up. (Around the midpoint of the show he explained the real reason Israel attacked theU.S.S. Liberty in 1967.)

Regarding 9/11, Hart suggested that while there may have been some original terrorist plot conceived by fellow-travelers of Osama Bin Laden, the Israeli Mossad, with its near-total penetration of Middle Eastern governments and terrorist groups alike, would have quickly detected and hijacked the operation to its own ends, orchestrating a spectacularly successful attack on America designed to be blamed on its Arab and Muslim enemies. Hart added that the Mossad operation that became 9/11 would have been aided and abetted by certain corrupt American leaders.

Sounding a chilling note, Hart added that the U.S. is in grave danger of an Israeli-instigated false-flag nuclear attack, perhaps using an American nuclear weapon stolen from Minot Air Force Base during the “loose nukes” rogue operation of August, 2007. The motive would be to trigger a U.S. war with Iran, and perhaps to finish the ethnic cleansing of Palestine under cover of war–which Hart is convinced the Zionists are planning to do as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

When a warning this serious is delivered by a messenger with the stature of Alan Hart, the American people had better find a way around the news blackout imposed by the Zionist-dominated corporate and pseudo-alternative media. The only thing standing in the way of an Israeli false-flag nuclear attack on America, a disastrous US war on Iran, and a horrendous acceleration of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, is the awareness of the American people. Please copy, post, and mass-email this story.
