In a stunning suspension of disbelief, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has won a resounding victory over morality and common sense when he received an enormous endorsement of his high crimes and misdemeanors by almost half of the Turkish electorate. A supporter of terrorism, a paradigm of political corruption, nevertheless he has rallied his religious supporters to also suspend their belief in the principles of the Koran, not to mention international law, and vote overwhelmingly for the political cesspool that has become the AKP, his political party. As was said about Nazi Germany and the German people sixty years ago, can be said about Turkey this darkest of evenings.
“I have often felt a bitter sorrow at the thought of the German people,
which is so estimable in the individual and so wretched in the generality.”
GOETHE
“A thousand years will pass and the guilt of Germany will not be erased.”
