During the past year the Atatürk Society of America has been working feverishly with the unusually talented local sculptor, Jeffery Hall, to produce a full-size bronze statue of Kemal Atatürk. When it is unveiled on November 10th, the statue will represent the first public monument in the United States honoring one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.
Following the practice of the past 75 years, there will be a moment of silence at 9:05 am (the moment when Atatürk passed away in 1938). Subsequently, the guests will be invited for a brief ceremony inside the Ambassador’s Residence. Please see the attached invitation for details.
The purpose of the proceedings on Sunday morning is to pay homage to the greatest Turk of them all. Accordingly, we must all practice dignity and discipline and refrain from any type of protest. A single white or red flower would be appreciated if participants would like place flowers by the statue.
Sincerely,
Members of the Atatürk Society of America
