She believes that making sustainable garments starts with creativity in
the design.
Serap Pollard is one of the few designers who produce sustainable
fashion. Sustainable fashion is a way of producing clothing in an
eco-friendly way. The goal being to reduce the negative impacts it has
on the environment and maximize the garments lifespan, avoiding the
typical short term garment trend of just wearing a piece of clothing for
one season.
Serap Pollard aims to create modern and trendy garments with a timeless
design, so individuals can wear her creations for longer than the
typical once season lifespan. Mixing timeless elegance and high quality
means she is able to produce pieces which helps reduce the amount of
wastage produced from old clothing. In Serap Pollards ‘sus-tainable’
line she particularly focuses on producing zero wastage when making her
desirable garments. On average 15-20% of material used in general
garment production goes to waste. Material is also an important factor
in producing garments and the process of turning raw fibers into a
textile and the chemicals used. Using more natural and recycled
materials in production helps reduce a garments carbon-footprint
further. Serap uses natural materials such as bamboo in her garments
emphasizing her support for the sustainable fashion trend.
