According to the Futures Without Violence organization one in every three women is faced with some sort of abuse in their lifetime. Education is one of the very important factors for this insulting and unwanted situation.
I believe that best way to empower women and protect them from violence, abuse, and discrimination is through giving them the fundamental right to an education. I believe this is crucial for all developing countries, particularly for the future of modern, secular Turkey (my homeland).
In line with my passion, I’ve decided to join the ONE BILLION RISING CAMPAIGN to be held on February 14, 2013 by walking up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania from January 25th to February 1st to raise awareness about the global issue of violence against women and girls and to fundraise for this important cause. Funds raised during my campaign will be donated to Bridge to Turkiye Fund’s (BTF) “Medine Memi Girls Empowerment Scholarships Project” which was created in honor of 16-year old Medine Memi who’s life was cut short through “honor killing” by her own family members. Through this project, BTF provides scholarships to underprivileged girls from rural regions of Turkey who have limited access to an education.
My goal is to raise $5895, which represents the height of Mount Kilimanjaro in meters. I appreciate your generous donations to support disadvantaged young women and girls in rural Turkey to give them the opportunity to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Thank you for sharing my passion and supporting this important cause.
