With a pair of assists, Serra Tumay became the New York University women’s soccer program’s all-time leading scorer while leading the Violets to a 3-1 victory over Farmingdale State College on Thursday, September 20, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

Tumay’s two helpers gave her 64 career points, breaking the school record of 63 set by Filiz Kipcakli in 2010. Erin Ahmed, Cami Crawford and Natalie Beach scored NYU’s (4-2) goals against the Rams (3-4), a team that has made five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship.

Highlights

– After a scoreless first half, Ahmed opened the scoring just 3:24 into the second period. Melissa Menta played a short pass to Tumay, who fed Ahmed for a strike to the left post.

– The Violets’ second and third goals both came on corners. In the 55th minute, Tumay’s corner was deflected by the goalkeeper, but Mary Clair headed it across the six-yard box to Crawford, who then headed it in.

– Beach made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, heading in Tumay’s corner.

– Farmingdale State’s Corinne Magee ended the shutout bid in the 73rd minute, chasing a long through ball from Andrea Kiefer and knocking it in past a charging Meg Patten.

– For the game, NYU held a 15-8 advantage in shots while putting nine attempts on frame.

“It was a solid performance on both sides of the ball,” said Violet Head Coach Michele Canning. “I’m really happy for Serra because she puts so much effort into her game and NYU women’s soccer, and she deserves to be recognized as one of the top players in the program’s history.”

The Violets return to the pitch on Saturday, September 22, for a road contest at Bard College. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
