Armenians who were forced to emigration, lost and killed in 1915, were commemorated with flowers and candles at Taksim Square, Istanbul. “As the official policy to deny this crime continues, the bleeding scar at the hearts of the people of this land deepens,” said Zeynep Tanbay.

Say Stop to Racism and Nationalism Initiative today (Sunday) organized events in Istanbul, Ankara, Bodrum and Diyarbakır to commemorate the Armenians massacred in 1915.

Around 500 people gathered in front of a banner that read “the pain is ours”, at Istanbul’s Taksim Square. They lit candles and brought carnations

“April 24, 1915 marks the start of a disaster that tore the Armenian people from this land where they lived side by side with others since centuries, that left hundreds of thousands dead and subject to all kinds of atrocities for nothing but being Armenians,” said Zeynep Tanbay, prominent modern dancer and human rights activist.

“Since then, governments and state authorities tried to play down, if not to cover up and legitimize this history. Yet, this lethal exile is clearly a crime against humanity. We have to end denying, now. This is why we invite all our people who think that this land should be the land of fair people, to an late humanitarian duty. We have to declare that the heavy crime that’s symbolized by April 24 is our common pain.”

Arat Dink, Fethiye Çetin, Masis Kürkçügil, Zeynep Tanbay, Yıldız Önen, Osman Kavala, Ahmet İnsel, Doğan Tarkan, Ufuk Uras, Yiğit Ekmekçi, Ayşegül Altınay, Atilla Aytemür, Ayça Damgacı, Gencay Gürsoy, Tayfun Mater, Cengiz Aktar, Yavuz Önen, Yalçın Ergündoğan, Ferhat Kentel and Garo Paylan were among the participants. When the Armenian cry for my grandmothers relatives in “Subatan” that were murdered. Then I will shed a tear for their ancestors up until they recognise our losses why would we be obliged to recognise theirs ? I hate the fact that people say the Government denies the fallacious Armenian Genocide. If anything the Turkish Government has slept for over 96 years. They have wiped away the evidence of what the Armenians did from the Turkish psyche. It’s time that all Turks read up and learnt what the Armenians actually did to innocent men women and children throughout Eastern Turkey. More Turks and other Muslims were murdered then Armenians. Two wrongs don’t make a right but two wrongs dont make a Genocide either.

The only denial is made by Armenians who cooperated with Russians and killed innocent Muslims in Eastern Turkey. There are several pictures online shows Armenians volunteers in Russian (the enemy of the Turks in the war) army. My great grandfather who was a rich man in Agri had to lose all his land and relocated central Turkey because of Armenian violence. They suffered without food for days. No one recognizes Turkish peoples’ suffering.
Genocide is not the term for the things happened because Ottoman government punished people (hanged them) who attacked the Armenians for revenge. This truth is published by archives in Istanbul. Genocide is systematic killing of a nation and there were no sign of systematic killing by the Turkish Government. If mandatory migration is an act of genocide Turkish people who had to migrate and lost their land also were subject to genocide by Armenian neighbors who cooperated with enemy and killed their fellow citizen.
My great grandfather helped and tried to save people from Armenian violence he even saved a man who were set on fire. I wonder when innocent Turks and Kurds’ rights will be recognized in terms of humanitarian duty? When innocent Azeri’s rights will be recognized? Azerbaijan land is still under occupation by Armenia and many innocent people, children and women were killed by Armenians. I really wonder that does humanitarian duty only applicable for everybody except Muslims?
