Propositions

-de, -e, – den endings

-de means at, on or in (there is no movement to or from)

e means to (there is movement towards)

den means from (there is movement away from)

 

Let’s have a look at them closely.

 

-de  will turn into   -da when the last vowel is one of the following a,ı,o,u. Vowel harmony again.

 

Masada otur.                 (Sit at the table)

Evde bekle.                              (Wait at home)

Sinamada buluşalım.     (Let’s meet at the cinema)

Ankara’da oturuyorum. (I live in Ankara)

Şimdi ben okuldayım.    (I am at school now)

Yerde çöp var.               (There is rubbish on the floor)

 

-e will turn into -a when the last vowel is one of the following a,ı,o,u. Vowel harmony again.

 

Eve gidiyorum.                        (I am going home)

Okula gidiyorum.                     (I am going to school)

Sinamaya gidiyoruz.                (We are going to the cinema)

Ahmet’in evine gidiyoruz.       (We are going to Ahmet’s house)

Çocukları parka götürüyorum.         (I am taking the kids to the park)

Paris’e gidiyoruz.                    (We are going to Paris)

Londra’ya gidiyorum.             (I am going to London)

Markete git.                                       (I am going to the market)

y is the buffer   letter

 

-den will turn into -dan when the last vowel is a,ı,o,u.

 

Evden geliyorum.                              (I am coming from home)

Viyena’dan dönüyorum.                             (I am returning from Vienna)

Ayşe’nin evinden geliyorum.             (I am coming from Ayşe’s house)

Sinemadan sonra benim evime gel.   (Come to my house after cinema)

Masadan defteri getir.                       (Bring the notebook from the table)

Bana Berlin’den elbise getir.             (Bring me a dress from Berlin)

Sinem’den bir cd aldım.                    (I got a cd from Sinem)
