What role does psycho geography play in the coming of age process of youth, especially in a multi-centered metropolis that itself is in a constant state of flux? Arzu Arda Kosar and Gul Cagin investigate the relation between the city and its inhabitants in Coming of Age/ TransIstanbul, a project by developed as a part of the Istanbul 2010 European Cultural Capital activities.
Cagin will conduct interactive collage workshops in the ghettos of Kucuk Armutlu and Kadirga Arts Center where participants will redesign their city to reflect their own needs, desires, aspirations, fantasies and biases. The workshop at Kadirga Art Center will take place during the opening reception on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 between 4pm-8pm.
Original works by the artists and the collages made during the workshops will be on display at Kadirga Arts Center until May 10, 2010. The TransIstanbul project was launched with street art such as graffiti and temporary site specific street installations in the summer of 2009 and will continue with another gallery exhibition in November 2010.
