NICOSIA, Feb 5 (Reuters) – Cypriot President Demetris Christofias said on Thursday that Turkey would not be able to join the European Union as long as it kept troops stationed in northern Cyprus.

“It’s not possible for Turkey to be accepted as a member of the union while continuing the occupation of Cyprus,” he told reporters. (Reporting by Michele Kambas; editing by Elizabeth Piper)

Cyprus has not been divided in 1974, and the Turkish troops there are not forces of accupation but Peace-Keeping troops within the framework of the 1960 Guarantee agreements – as Christofias would have one believe, but since 1964. The so-called Green-Line has been drawn up in March 1964 by UN officers who were first dispatched to Cyprus in order to stop the slaughter of the Turkish Cypriots by their Greek co- inhabitors of Cyprus. Ex-communist leader Christofias forgot to mention the British Military presence and UN-Peace keeping corps. Which other EU member has these on her territory?
The Cyprus conflict is much older than the EU. The EU has allowed herself the
mistake, under Greek pressure, to accord the southern part of Cyprus full membership both in contravention of the Cyprus constitution and international agreements.
Unfortunately, the EU continues to disappoint the Turkish side believing that the Turks would do anything for EU membership. As Turkish Cypriots,
we can only say; no thank you, “oxi” Mr. Christofias.

Do you want Turkey to lose its land to be included in European Union. Why do Europe not give the land upto Kosovo to Turks as a cost for even not being in a single bond with Europe.
British troops must be made to leave the Cyprus area anyway, their presence there is totally un-natural. Turks and Greeks may go on well with each other without British there as a Gatekeeper.
