UNESCO: 1996 TO BE YEAR OF NASREDDIN HODJA UNESCO announced on Friday that 1996 will be the year of Nasreddin Hodja, the famous Turkish philosopher, and 1997 will be the year of Hasan Ali Yucel, the famous poet and writer who was the fonder of the Turkish UNESCO national commission. UNESCO officials said that 1996 will be the 700th anniversary of Nasreddin Hodja's death and 1997 will be the 100th anniversary of Hasan Ali Yucel's birth.
